Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., then moving to Far Rockaway and Long Beach, Fran is no stranger to beach communities. Having earned a B.S.,M.S. in education, she spent over thirty years in the elementary classroom . There she wrote poetry and  plays for children, with adult messages, such as love, loss and friendship, and created original scenery to heighten the mood of her plays. She also worked with poet Georgia Heard, and is mentioned in her book, Awakening the Heart. Very often, Fran merged her own poetry with art and music in the classroom. In her free time, entirely self-taught, she artfully refinished furniture and painted canvases. Her dream for her retirement was to paint all the time and to learn more about art and technique. As a retiree, she has reinvented herself as an artist, transferring her past modes of expression into art.

Artist Statement:
As in my plays, my work sometimes conveys a message. I want my audience to wonder. Some of my paintings have become poems. My work runs from representational to  abstract. I work with mixed media, acrylics and fabric sculpture. Currently, I have been doing a series of figurative paintings telling a story, some quirky, and mysterious landscape. I am fascinated by the changes in dark and light values in the above.  My goal is to capture an emotional, spiritual quality in my work. Always, my aim is to move the viewer of my art and to awe myself, to leave myself gasping. I never know what I'll do next.
